On an occasional Friday, I hand over the wheel to this boozy ship to other interesting and in-the-know imbibers for their thoughts on some of the city’s best bars. This week, we talk to some of our favorite Brand Ambassadors. These people spend a lot of time building relationships in bars so they have lots of recommendations. But we asked them each to share just one or two fun and interesting addresses from their many favorites.
Joseph Biolatto, bartender and part owner of Baton Rouge and brand ambassador for Bols tells us “At the moment one particular bar is a bar that opened not long enough before we opened. Copper Bay, I really the laid back ambience, I like the bright side of it, I like the drinks, the staff, everyone is super nice. And the food is also really good. That’s the type of bar I’m looking for if I want to chill out and relax.
Camille Vidal is the brand ambassador for St Germain. She’s a busy, jet-setting lady, but manages to find some fun bars to visit in the course of work.
When Camille is looking for a great cocktail she heads to Café Moderne. “I always feel like home there.” Camille says, “I call it my home away from home. Imagine a French bistro meets Brooklyn and you’ve got Café Moderne! Mido the owner in charge of cocktails is one of the most talented people I know. He is so creative. You will get a wonderful cocktail, some delicious boulettes (meatballs) and amazing service. Cherry on the top of the cake: Mido loves St~Germain almost as much as I do!”
Martin Dupont helped build the FAIR brand from scratch and is now their brand ambassador covering many European markets. In Paris, his favorite bar is Mabel. Martin says he loves to watch bartender Joseph “mixing drinks with an incredible smoothness” as well as tasting “all the home made ingredients like shrubs”.
As a bonus, Martin also recommended Gravity Bar as a new favorite of his- thanks to the great food and music.
Charlotte Philips is a French American (but with Scotland in her heart…) and has been the Chivas ambassador for the last year and a half. She loves “The Victoria 1836: It has the refined, warm and luxurious feel of a “bar de palace”, but wholly unpretentious, so that you never feel intimidated going in, and always a little like royalty.
After chatting with the head bartender Kevin Suiero, who charmingly advises you on what cocktail to taste (his specialty is whisky, in all sorts of interesting combinations), you can sit back and enjoy the view of the Arc de Triomphe while sipping your drink by candlelight.”
Guillaume Bisiaux, brand ambassador for luxury house LVMH represents Belvedere, Hennessy, Glenmorangie and Ardbeg thinks readers should know: “One of my favourite places for my night off is Sherry Butt because they have probably the best selection of whisky in Paris (for a non-hotel bar.) It’s an incredible place, the bartenders are great, the cocktails are huge. I love the selection of Ardbeg, for sure, but there are a lot of Japanese whiskeys. It’s very delicate. So go to Sherry Butt; it’s an incredible place.”
