Advanced Tasting Workshop: All About French Cheese

In contrast to our other tours, this workshop is a relaxed indoor tasting and requires no walking. Seated at a beautiful table with printed materials to guide the exploration, you’ll spend two and a half hours with a real cheese expert diving deep into the fascinating subject of French fromage.

If you’ve ever wondered why there are more than 500 different cheeses in France, how different cheeses are produced (what accounts for their texture, color, and smell?), why French cheesemakers use raw unpasteurized milk in their cheese, what the impact of seasonality and aging are on cheese, and how locals typically enjoy cheese in restaurants and at home… this is the tasting for you.

How much cheese? That depends on the day, but we usually go for at least ten different cheeses comprising a wide range of styles, from delicate and dainty to runny and stinky. Copious bread and wine pairings will be served, so this tasting can definitely double as your lunch. We want you to sample a serious amount of cheese, to better understand your own preferences and what accounts for those flavors and textures, and to indulge in some rare and wonderful cheeses not available outside of France.
